In the North, spring returns
And the flowers of the tundra hasten to bloom again.
But flowers need more than light and warmth,
And in these vast lands it is Nitrogen that is in short
supply.
Flowers and lichens fed the Caribou while he lived.
Now, in death, his bones release their precious Nitrogen
To nourish the fragile soil,
So that the cycle of arctic life,
Human, plant and animal can continue.
